Obtain a Certificate of Standing

A Certificate of Standing is a detailed document issued by the Law Society of Upper Canada, which outlines full details about a licensee’s status, discipline history and ongoing complaints and investigations, if any.  A Certificate of Standing may be required by licensees for mobility or employment purposes in order to confirm whether the licensee is entitled to practise law or provide legal services in Ontario.

The cost for a Certificate of Standing is $50.00 (plus taxes).  The cost for an additional copy is $10.00 (plus taxes).  It may take up to ten business days to process a Certificate of Standing.  The cost of shipping is not included.  A Certificate of Standing will not be prepared and released to a third party without the subject licensee’s prior written authorization.

A Certificate of Standing may be ordered by a licensee through the LSUC Portal.  A third party may order a Certificate of Standing through the LSUC Store.  A third party authorization form is available through the LSUC Store.  If you have any questions, please contact the Membership Services department at records@lsuc.on.ca
