Articles of Clerkship

An Articles of Clerkship form must be completed and filed with the Law Society by a candidate who is registered in the Lawyer Licensing Process, by no later than 10 business days after the start of an articling placement. Candidates may file this form no earlier than 10 business days prior to the start date of the articling placement. The form must be signed by both the candidate and the Principal.

For joint articling placements (serving under more than one approved Principal), a Joint Articles of Clerkship form must be completed and filed with the Law Society by no later than 10 business days after the start of an articling placement. Candidates may file this form no earlier than 10 business days prior to the start date of the articling placement. The form must be signed by Principal 1, Principal 2 and the candidate.

For part-time articling placements (serving on a part-time basis under an approved Principal), a Part-Time Articles of Clerkship form must be completed and filed with the Law Society by no later than 10 business days after the start of an articling placement. Candidates may file this form no earlier than 10 business days prior to the start date of the articling placement. The form must be signed by both the candidate and the Principal.

The Law Society will not necessarily grant credit for time spent in an articling placement that has started more than 10 business days prior to the date one of the above Articles of Clerkship forms is filed with the Law Society, and will only grant credit for placements supervised by an approved Principal. If the form is filed later than 10 business days after the start date of the articling placement, the candidate will be invoiced a late fee of $100 (plus applicable taxes).
